Church of Saint Jean-Baptiste Porto Vecchio, Bonifacio

Heritage | Carbini | Corsica

The church Saint Jean-Baptiste de Carbini was built in the XIIth century, and was occupied in the XIVth century by the religious community of the Giovanalli.

The specificity of this community was to only recognize Saint Jean's Gospel, among the four canonical Gospels which counts the New Testament. Their rules were the poverty and the humility of course, but also a certain hostility towards the hierarchy of the Church. The magnificent bell tower on square base which raises by its side, was rebuilt in the XIXth century.
